About me

I am a barrister called to the Bar of England and Wales by Gray's Inn in 2003. I practise out of Chambers in Kings Bench Walk, Temple, London. I specialise in all areas of civil law, and in particular the areas set out in the box below. Please click on any of those links for more details of the type of work that I do and examples of recent cases. As a general civil practitioner, I am able to deal with most legal issues in the field of civil law that are likely to arise. I can assist in respect of problems that arise from relationship breakdowns, including divorce, the division of assets (Financial Remedies, previously known as Ancillary Relief) and disputes about children (commonly referred to as custody, residence or contact, but now known as Child Arrangement Orders), co-ownership disputes where parties are unmarried and own a property, disputes arising from employment, wills, probate or insolvency/bankruptcy, or landlord and tenant or housing issues, or disputes relating to commercial properties. I also deal with contractual and other civil disputes, from small claims to fast and multi track cases, and at all levels of court or tribunal, including the Family Court, County Court, First Tier Property Tribunal, Employment Tribunal and the High Court, as well as appeals. I am able to advise, draft documents, attend mediations or present cases at court at all levels throughout England and Wales.

In addition I regularly present seminars to solicitors, HR professionals, businesses and students, and am frequently published in legal journals.

Harassment and Cyberstalking

I am acknowledged as an expert in the field of harassment and cyberstalking and on 12 October 2011 at the invitation of Elfin Llwyd MP gave evidence to a Parliamentary Select Committee Inquiry into potential amendments to the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. The report of the Committee led directly to the amendment to the 1997 Act to include a specific offence of stalking.

I am the co-author of the leading paper in this area of law, entitled I CAN See You: Harassment and Stalking on the Internet and published in the Journal of Information and Communications Technology. Since publication, I have also presented a paper at the IADIS Conference held in Rome in July 2011 building on my conclusions, and which was published in the October 2012 International Journal of Distributed Systems and Technologies.

I work closely with the National Centre for Cyberstalking Research, based at the University of Bedfordshire, as well as the Cyber Stalking Unit established by Collyer Bristow. I am also affiliated with the National Stalking Training Academy which provides training and awareness of the risks posed by Cyberstalking. In November 2011 I was appointed visiting Fellow of the University of Bedfordshire, as part of my ongoing work with the National Centre for Cyberstalking Research.

I am also the co-author of the recent paper "Cyberstalking in the UK: Analysis and Recommendations", IJDST 3(4), 34-51 Oct-Dec 2012.
