Welcome to my site

Welcome to the website of Chris Bryden, a barrister called to the Bar of England and Wales and practising out of the Chambers of Timothy Raggatt QC at 4 King's Bench Walk, Temple, London.

The purpose of this site is to provide details of the various services that I can offer to clients, both professional, and members of the public directly under the Bar Direct Public Access Scheme. Visitors to this site will therefore find information on how I can be instructed directly by members of the public without the use of a solicitor, as well as details of Seminars aimed at solicitors, HR professionals, students or businesses. In addition details of the various publications that I have authored and how to commission me to prepare written literature can be found here.

I am a common law barrister in a common law set of Chambers, and as such act for clients in a range of areas. I can assist in respect of problems that arise from:

  • relationship breakdowns, including divorce,
  • the division of assets (Financial Remedies, previously known as Ancillary Relief)
  • disputes about children (commonly referred to as custody, residence or contact, but now known as Child Arrangement Orders)
  • co-ownership disputes where parties are unmarried and own a property
  • disputes arising from employment
  • wills and probate
  • insolvency/bankruptcy
  • landlord and tenant or housing issues
  • disputes relating to commercial properties
  • .

I also deal with contractual and other civil disputes, from small claims to fast and multi track cases, and at all levels of court or tribunal, including the Family Court, County Court, First Tier Property Tribunal, Employment Tribunal and the High Court, as well as appeals.

I am able to advise, draft documents, attend mediations or present cases at court at all levels throughout England and Wales.

However this site has been created in particular to allow members of the public to have access to representation by an experienced and effective barrister in circumstances where otherwise the costs of litigation would make this prohibitive, and to ensure that any prospective clients have all of the information that they need to make an informed decision as to whether to instruct me directly on a public access basis.

Traditionally access to a barrister has been solely through a solicitor. However since 2004 members of the public have been able directly to instruct barristers. This potentially can lead to significant savings on legal costs, though some cases will not be suitable and a solicitor will be required.

I am prepared to consider any direct access case, either through the provision of advocacy skills or advisory services, so long as the same is within my competence. I am able to provide a highly competitive, expert service and will as a first step speak with prospective clients by telephone at no cost to determine the ambit of any case.

I am also able to recommend solicitors who may be able to assist in those cases which are not suitable for Public Access.

To enquire about instructing me in your case directly, please fill in the Enquiry Form and I will be in touch.
